School Field Trips:
Meacham offers field trips to all schools interested in learning about agriculture. We are uniquely accessible to urban schools, as we’re a fully functioning farm located in downtown Tampa!
Field trips for school classes will last approximately two hours. The bulk of the field trip activity is the in-depth farm tour. An experienced farmer will take the class through all production aspects of the farm, how a seed becomes a crop, and even how it is packaged, sold and turned into a meal. Tours can be customized for specific topics, including plant biology, environmentalism, nutrition and more. All tours include discussions about plant life, farm tools and technology, soil life, seeding and planting, harvesting, chickens and bees (both on-farm), and vegetable processing. Typically, there is a crop ready for picking and sampling in-field (cherry tomatoes, for example)!
A hands-on activity is also a part of the field trip, and typically is a seed planting that the students can take home to grow. We’ll also provide a veggie tasting and a water break. A freshly prepared farm-to-table lunch can be provided for an extra cost.
Public schools (HCPS) are offered these field trips at no charge. Private schools and homeschool groups can book a field trip for $200, for up to 25 students. This is a two hour field trip, with flexible time at the end of the field trip for lunch, etc. A true farm-to-table lunch can be provided for $10/meal.
School tours are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, early or later. It’s possible to have two on the same day!
