Meacham Urban Farm

Located in the heart of Tampa Bay, Meacham Urban Farm exists to bring Tampa families access to truly nourishing food. We grow much of what we sell ourselves and partner with trusted organic farms across Florida to provide fresh, nutrient-dense produce grown with care and intention. Unlike food shipped thousands of miles across the country, ours is harvested close to home, at peak freshness, with a focus on quality, flavor, and nutrition. We believe healthy communities begin with healthy food, and we're committed to making local food families can trust easier to find, food that nourishes people, supports a healthier environment, and strengthens the local food system.

Our story

Meacham Urban Farm transformed a vacant two-acre lot into a productive farm in the heart of Downtown Tampa. The farm is part of the Encore redevelopment project, a 1,500-unit mixed-income neighborhood, and was built in collaboration with the Tampa Housing Authority and the Hillsborough County School District. An initial grant funded the farm's infrastructure buildout; since then, Meacham has sustained itself as a small agricultural business through direct-to-consumer sales and farm events.

How we farm

Our farming ethos is simple: grow the highest-quality, most nutrient-dense food possible through practices that support soil health and work with nature. We farm on a permanent bed system that minimizes soil disturbance, and manage our crops through mechanical cultivation, organic fertilizers, cover cropping, crop rotation, and integrated pest management. Our crops are always free from pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers.

Our namesake

Meacham Urban Farm is named after Christina Meacham, who in 1914 served as principal of Tampa's first African American school, Harlem Academy, once located in the neighborhood known as "the Scrub," where the farm stands today. We're proud to continue that educational legacy by growing Meacham into a hands-on learning resource for local school students and the public alike.
